The UK has been hit by a snowstorm this last day - Snowday!!! We got the day off work! Yay! Well, not quite true, we still had to turn up as the weather wasn't too bad this morning, but it was gradually getting worse and worse. At 10pm an email came round telling everyone the office would be closed and all staff should make their way home. Great! Except I wish we'd been told to stay at home, rather than get up, get into work (slowly - the journey took a long time even first thing!) for two hours then go home again. Especially the poor guy who spend 2 1/2 hours getting to work from just 10 miles away. He had to get up at about 5am, get the kids a daysitter, take the badly-gritted main road from his home town, got in, worked for about 15 mins, then was told to go home! Talk about a wasted journey!
The roads are still bad so I have not gone to Tae Kwon Do class or circuits tonight. And it will be difficult to go for a jog in the snow (um, my excuse anyway).
It goes without saying I haven't done any skydiving lately!!! In fact this will be my longest break in about 3 years (no jumping from Nov 09 to Feb 10) to try and save up money - it's cold and wet in the winter anyway.
I'm looking forward to the next few weekends as we have lots of tunnel flying (indoor skydiving in the vertical wind tunnel) booked. An hour of 4-way formation flying in the brand new wind tunnel that has just opened. Plus a 20min session of freeflying (acrobatics) with a partner. And the British Parachute Association AGM the next day! Which is basically a huge party in a nice hotel. All this takes place in Manchester and Blackpool, and it's gonna be a highlight of the winter season!
At the end of January, we have the BCPA Indoor Championships. The BCPA is the British Collegiate Parachute Association (the University/Students skydiving association). I will be competing for Southampton University, my old uni (you can stay in the team for up to 4 years after you graduation). There'll be a 4-way competition and loads of fun flying too! We're the top team in the UK at the moment (yes we are, anyone from Warwick Uni reading this, just look at the UKS site hahaha) We're hoping to get a very good score this year, hopefully one better than Warwick of course!
Then it's a big night out on the town (my birthday as well, so I'll be painting the town red!!) to celebrate. And the next day, I'll be off on the trip of a lifetime to one of the biggest skydiving clubs in the world.......that will have it's own blog entry!
